About Studio Connect
Studio Connect is a group of visual artists who identify as having a disability. Our disabilities are all different.
Some of us have had formal visual arts training outside of the group and have a long history or making and exhibiting work. Some of us started our artistic careers with the beginning of the group.
Studio Connect started under the name ArtsabiliTEA in 2010.Until now, we have existed primarily to create work for an annual curated exhibition at the Belconnen Arts Centre in conjunction with the International Day of People with a Disability.
We learnt the process of creating work for a professional exhibition in a mainstream gallery. By 2013, we were seeking new challenges. Through the Community Cultural Inclusion Program , we attended monthly workshops facilitated by artist Nicola Lambert.
We developed a stronger identity as a collaborative group and gained an increased desire to grow and develop as individual artists and as a group.
“The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls.”
