About Artist / Facilitator Nicola

Nicola was formally trained as a Printmaker in Limerick School of Art and Design, Ireland. She has been involved in the Arts and Disability sector over the past 7 years in various roles, in both Ireland and Australia.

She began her journey in to the world of Disability and Arts at the Mayfield Community Art Centre, Cork, where she was introduced to the idea of Supported Studios.

After meeting her Canberran (now) husband, Nicola moved to Perth, studied Certificate III in Disabilities and worked as a social trainer for 2 years while continuing to create work as a community artist

On returning to Canberra, Nicola had the great fortune to meet former ACT Artsability Officer Caro Roach. From this wonderful union came the opportunity for Nicola to become one of the Community Cultural Inclusions Officers in the ACT.

Nicola established Create & Sow on Valentine's Day 2014 with the intension of supporting artists within the community. Her aim is to raise awareness of the presence of professional artists with disabilities working in Australia. Create & Sow will assist artists in pursuing their dream of creating and sharing their art with the local and national arts communities.

“The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls.”
